Being Apple Mac users, when our Mac Mini died towards the end of 2008 we decided we should try and get hold of a second laptop (in addition to the 12" PowerBook I was using at the time).
We asked for donations to our "laptop fund" starting with gifts for my birthday (in November) and then for Christmas as well. However, it soon became apparent that even second-hand MacBooks were going to cost more than we could currently afford. In the end, we decided to compromise and purchased an Acer Aspire One netbook. This gave us the advantage of a cheap, lightweight netbook to be used by us and the children without having to worry about being too precious, the chance to play around a bit with Linux, and also left some cash spare.
As a result, I was able to take the plunge and upgrade to my first "proper" digital camera - a Nikon D40 DSLR. This was something I'd been meaning to do for a while, as I enjoy taking photographs, but was still something of a beginner. So why this blog? Well, it seems that for every 30 or so photos I shot, I started getting one or two that I really liked, so I wanted somewhere to show them off to friends and family, and see where it led me...
